Community work in the Vale awarded

Community heroes in the Vale of White Horse District Council have been awarded for their voluntary work.

39 people were nominated by town and parish councils to thank them for being so supportive to their local communities and were invited to attend a lunch by the Chairman of the district council at the Beacon in Wantage. The nominees who attended were awarded with a certificate and trophy as a thank you for all their dedication and hard work.

People from right across the Vale received awards, including three members of the Faringdon - Jon Durant was nominated for his work on organising events run by the Faringdon Far Runners group, Chris Smith for encouraging children to exercise and volunteer at local community events and Sjoerd Vogt for being the town crier and welcoming people into the town.

Chairman of the district council, Cllr Monica Lovatt presented the awards to all those attending said: "I'm very pleased that so many of the people nominated were able to attend this special lunch and receive the recognition they deserve. It is humbling to hear the amount of work they do that benefits our community – they're all truly inspirational."
